DSN Radio Astronomy
General Technical Documentation
Last updated by Tom Kuiper on 2008 Apr 16
This covers technical information which is common to most if not all
stations. A description of the configuration
description in software is part of the stn_cfg
package.
Generic Information
- K-Band
- Over-all block diagram of the 3-channel K-band systems.
- K-Band YIG Filters
- These tunable RF filters are available but not used because
of their amplitude instability. A stabilized filter is being
tested at MDSCC.
- RF Matrix Switch
- This matrix switch selects which front-end will be handled
by which MMS down-converter.
- HP MMS Downconverter
- General purpose spectrum analyzer, surveillance receiver,
and 1-26 GHz down-converter.
- 321.4 MHz IF
Distribution Assembly
- IOtech Digital Interface
- This digital input/output unit is becoming obsolete and is
being replaced by Agilent units. This pages are kept for
reference, particularly the controlled device pin connections.
- IF Matrix Switch
- This 6x24 matrix switch can direct any of six IF inputs to
and of 24 outputs. There is one currently at DSS-13, DSS14, and
SPC-60.
- VLBI Video Downconverters
- This show how to use the video down-converters in the VLBI DAT
to convert IF to baseband and low-pass filter it.
- VLBI Science Receiver
- This unit, available at all DSN Complexes, is becoming the
standard spectrometer.
